Are Suet feeders good for birds

Nothing is liked more by wild birds than the fatty, nutritious filled suet cakes or fat balls which can benefit to being trapped away in a cage like bird feeder.

Suet feeders are good for birds because it can conserve the suet in use for longer. Suet out of the cage can germinate if exposed on the ground or on a surface, whereby to hang the suet can keep it for longer. Suet feeders are open to far more birds due to being hung or laid flat, to which larger birds will use it.

Absolutely are suet bird feeders good for birds because it contains one important food group - which is a fatty source of protein to re-store lost energy for what is lost mostly in wintertime.

Of course suet bird feeders can get messy at times but that can be fixed with no melt suet cakes, or their fat ball or pellet counterpart.

Clean a suet bird feeder as your normally would in dish soap to cut through the film of grease, whereas to clean a suet feeder in bleach or vinegar can kill off bacteria.

What is good about suet feeder isn't so much the feeder themselves, but more so the nutritious suet cakes it hold which are good for birds; actually more than good as they give birds an energy boost, while replacing lost body fat as they forage.

Good for all year use when using no melt suet cakes or fat balls to prevent a mess under the heat of the sun - whilst feeding suet to birds in winter must be your top priority.

All your common backyard bird feeder birds will be sure to eat up the suet in a matter of days; though being a favorite of squirrels and other pests - thus the suet must be locked away to stop these raiders to picking it up and taking away the suet cake.

Which is why you must use a suet feeder at all times, it may not be waterproof but it does a great job at protecting the suet.

Good at conserving suet cakes

I can tell you now there's no better way to serve up suet of any kind for wild birds than with the convenience of a suet feeder.

Why suet feeders are good for birds is because of the accessibility, as oppose to the common tube or wire bird feeders designed for seeds or nuts respectively, which can be far more restricting.

Suet feeders have a way of being open to all birds which is due to the fact the way they are made.

What is essentially a durable plastic coating wrapped around steel wire to create a more gentle bird feeder - its therefore safe for all birds to use without harming themselves in the process.

More importantly, suet cake bird feeders can conserve any suet cake, including fat balls or pellets - whereby without using of a suet feeder the suet rapidly rots in the yard.

And that is with even the best suet cakes for birds, as the suet recipe has a knack of germinating while laid out on a surface - or if left on the ground for wild birds to help themselves.

Suet bird feeders are good for all common backyard birds, as a way to feed on a high in protein, high in fat wild bird food.

Feeders open to all birds

Suet feeders are made in such a way they remain open to all common backyard birds, with no restrictions at all.

Of course where you hang a suet feeder can more or less open it up to birds, whereas a safe position off a tree branch or the bird feeder pole can guarantee use by all bird feeder birds - including the larger ground feeding birds.

What kind of suet you put in the bird feeder can also have its say, as birds eat based on what their natural diet requires; thus fruit-eating birds will eat a fruit filled suet cake whereby a popular seed filled suet cake would be eaten by more backyard birds.

Open up to all any type of suet bird feeder by positioning it in a way that its not so much hanging - but more so leaning or wedged in a tree or on the bird feeder pole.

Awkward birds such as Northern Cardinals or Blue Jays who love suet can then rest on the now stabilized suet cage itself, to peck at the suet.

Less common bird feeder birds such as Robins or Bluebirds would also benefit from a bird feeder that remains still as possible so they can land on it to feed.

What you put in a suet feeder will either attract these birds or discourage them, thus it helps to be sure you are offering the kind of suet your birds need as part of their diet. An example of that is seed based suet for seed-eating birds, as previously mentioned.

Can hang or be laid flat

What is good about suet bird feeders is that they are commonly made to be hung by default, when laying the feeder on a surface can be just as effective.

How to hang suet for birds - be it in cake, ball or pellet form - is in their own specific suet bird feeder.

Whereas suet cakes, pellets or fat balls on their own can be offered out of a suet feeder, so its important to remember that as you may need to attract birds to the suet feeder this way, rather than always relying on use of a bird feeder.

How to hang a suet bird feeder is off a tree branch as this is where most backyard birds forage in the wild, with a suet feeder added to this tree can see a huge uptake in its use.

However don't only hang the suet feeder when you can wedge it in and among the tree branches to stabilize it for all birds to use.

Similarly, to hang it off a lower branch it must remain 5-6 off the ground, with an additional suet bird feeder needed if a second location can cater to more birds in the yard.

Hanging a suet bird feeder isn't your only option mind you, when this sandwich shape suet cake or rounded fat ball feeder can be put on top of a flat platform.

Birds like to eat off a hanging suet bird feeder while many more can tackle a suet cage laid on its side to stabilize it - as birds help themselves with help of a feeder not hanging at all.

Before you know it, it won't be long before birds come to the feeder that is laid flat, rather than tackling a compact, swinging in the wind hanging suet bird feeder.

Favorite bird feeder

It has to be said, what is good about suet feeder is this style of bird feeder remains the most liked option, mostly due to it containing what wild birds want most.

Favorite suet cake bird feeders can be hung to allow many birds to cling onto the available slots to hang off - whereas a similar fat ball feeder can be just as effective for allowing birds to cling on to feed.

Birds want what is trapped inside a suet bird feeder, and because its open to the elements at all times - its a tempting proposition for most birds to feed off it.

Not all birds mind as not all common backyard birds can feed off a bird feeder, let alone a suet feeder.

What is good about any suet bird feeder is the way you can lay it out on a table top, platform bird feeder or on the porch railing. In which case birds can land beside it to help themselves to the fatty suet.

Bird feeders for suet can come in many forms, while a suet window bird feeder can be hard to attract birds too - while it still can be a lot of fun to encourage birds to use it.

What else can benefit pretty much all the Woodpecker family is an upside down suet feeder.

What upside down suet feeders are, is a normal suet bird feeder only the suet is accessible underneath it; thus Woodpeckers and even Chickadees are forced to hang upside down to feed, just as they like to in the wild.

Summary

I must admit the suet bird feeder remains my personal favorite because I see far more birds use it daily than any other kind - while this follows up by the seed feeder coming up at way behind second place.

Of course suet feeders are good for birds because what is essentially a cage bird feeder can conserve the suet for longer, while an out-of-feeder suet can be seen to rot.

Good at conserving suet cakes or fat balls, suet bird feeders are a must to prevent large birds like persistant crows and pigeons, and other backyard pests like squirrels taking the actual suet block or balls away.

To hang a suet bird feeder in a tree or off a bracket can prevent nighttime thieves, which will force day time birds to eat a little bit at a time.

Remember suet feeders are not restricted to hanging, even though that's what they're made for.

In fact it can be more effective to lay a suet bird feeder on a flat surface somewhere around the yard - or wedge it up in the tree or on the bird feeder pole.

Benefit to this technique is now the suet feeder is stabilized, which can encourage birds who would of previously avoided this fragile hanging suet bird feeder.

Suet feeders are made to be open to all birds who wish to feed off it, because of the way the suet is open to the elements.

What remains a birds favorite bird feeder, its the fatty fruit, seed or insect flavored suet they want, thus it must be accessible at all times in a suet cage.
