Are window bird feeders any good

Not your classic bird feeder that is guaranteed to see success, so its any wonder you'd have reservations over the use of a window bird feeder.

Window bird feeders are a good idea if you are someone who has the patience to see fewer birds use it over the course of the week - but a large number of birds can use it for sure. Stick on window feeders cater to fewer birds because it can't hold larger birds weight, but in the end patience is key.

Asking if window bird feeders are any good could be for fear of knowing window bird feeders see less birds, but you would be right.

Feeders designed to be stuck on glass windows with suction cups tend to attract less birds, because the often busy location is a concern to most timid birds.

And despite many of us seeing fewer smaller common backyard birds use it, others could still get lots of birds arriving on it.

No definite answer too if window bird feeders are any good, because it can depend on the location.

More so a house with little to no noise and disturbance would see more success, if not a guarantee - whereas a busy house full of kids and pets would simply scare any birds away who would normally be willing to give it a go.

What you can do, and all you can really do is stick on the window bird feeder to a window that is the quietest on the inside - while try to use many kinds of bird food as possible.

Not GOOD as classic feeders

Make no mistake, window bird feeders of any kind are not as good as regular feeders you would normally use hanging up on the bird feeding station.

Conditions must be met for backyard birds to use window mounted bird feeders, including a quiet yard with little to no disturbance.

Window bird feeders are good for feeding hungry birds that are willing too come to your window, but it can be rare for most of us.

Classic bird feeders don't have any of these issues for the sole purpose of where bird feeders are placed in the backyard - so normally way back away from the house, and out of the way of you and the family.

Not so with a feeder that is pushed up right against a window with noise and people moving around on the other side.

Low success rate

Unfortunately, there is a low success rate in terms of birds coming to use a bird feeder, with most of us receiving little to no visits.

It can absolutely be a success for some of us who leave the birds to their own devices, but in reality the movement of people, along with noise and pets on the other side of the pane of glass is a real put off.

I wouldn't say window bird feeders are more a novelty because they can really be a useful bird feeder - despite these feeders benefiting us more in terms of our need to want too observe birds up close as they feed.

Low success rate for many of us for sure but a window bird feeder can be a good thing in times of need, with birds being a little less picky.

Make your window bird feeder seen but avoid keeping it hidden, but no use of a stick-on window feeder can really be contributed to the lack of bird species its targeted towards.

Limited too specific feed

While the packaging or manufacturer information will not lay it out on their instructions, you must remember window bird feeders can hold only certain bird feed.

And while it will hold seeds or peanuts in its compartments, its therefore only these birds that are on a diet of seeds or nuts that can use this window feeder.

That can then drastically reduce how many common backyard birds who can use your window feeder.

On top of that, numbers are reduced once again as larger birds such as Blue Jays wouldn't be capable of landing on the short perch clearing to the window, along with Cardinals who are smaller, but unable to perch on small window feeders.

In which a window bird feeder would become more hazardous to feeding birds if there is a risk of it collapsing.

Its therefore only small backyard birds likely to feed on window feeders, and only those that eat seeds or nuts in the wild.

However, there is certainly nothing stopping you in an effort to open up your window feeder to more species with a more varied diet, providing you use a window bird feeder that is bigger, yet can remain stuck to the window under extra weight.

Good feeling when it happens

You only need to see your brand new window bird feeder be used just the once to really appreciate what the window feeder could bring in the near future.

To not see early success or only a few birds landing but not feeding is enough to put you off, but believe me when I say a bird here and there using the feeder is an amazing feeling when it does happen.

In fact, it can feel so good it just may spare you on to continue to use your window bird feeder.

What I would do though is continue to feed wild birds in your yard using regular bird feeders, as few birds could jump over to the window if they have to fight for a meal.

Window bird feeders are good when it happens, despite it being a rare occasion.

So if you are willing to be patience to see this unique clear plastic device stuck to your window used every once in a while, then its a good feeder to use.

If you are not one for patience or don't intend to wait it out, then leave the window bird feeder alone and stick to classic bird feeders.

Conclusion

I believe window bird feeders to be good for few of us while most would probably see little to no use of the stick on window bird feeder.

That is not to say window bird feeders are not any good, because anything that offers up bird food is a good thing for sure, as it benefits our backyard birds.

Its just in reality most window bird feeder are compatible with only a few birds in our yard, so in turn is used less.

What else can be contributed to non use of window bird feeders is the noise you create inside the house, or movement by other family members or pets like a bird killing cat.

Its important to experiment with your window feeder just as you would a regular seed or peanut feeder hanging up around the yard - by simply sticking the feeder on different windows to see if it will entice more birds.

Cheap as window bird feeders are, you are sure not to lose out too much money wise if no birds bite, but some will in the end.

You must remember, window bird feeders don't work like regular feeders as it reduces the number of birds it can attract, so if you don't mind an occasional visit you do witness, then put faith into a window bird feeder.
