How to open Squirrel Buster Classic bird feeder

Once you know how to open the Squirrel Buster, its imperative not to get over excited as to avoid the fine steel wire breaking as its used to hang up on.

How to open the Squirrel Buster Classic bird feeder needs a twist of the lid in a counterclockwise action, as you simultaneously push it down to lift it back up to open. Similar to a child-proof medicine bottle, only the Squirrel Buster is more user-friendly. To close up the lid top, simply reverse the opening steps outlined.

As its a big wild bird seed feeder to use, the large open lid top is more user friendly, so there's no need to go overboard in the opening process.

Go gently as you twist the full lid top around, as you then allow the lid to actually be pushed down a little way - then twist the lid counter-clockwise until it comes to a stop, to then lift the lid up and off it goes for refilling or cleaning this Squirrel Buster.

Lid top does not comes off all the way as its fixed permanently to a steel wire, so simply set the lid to the side as it hangs off.

Make sure the lid is level to securely twist it back on to close, as you won't be able to shut it until its leveled off to be closed up.

And there you have it, as following the rules of opening a child-proof medicine bottle; same method applies to opening the Squirrel Buster, only its easier because its uses a larger lid - so get your hands fully over it to get a grip.

Higher in price compared to regular squirrel proof feeders, but this unique top rated squirrel proof bird feeder is among the best, doing actually what its suppose to do.

Twist Top, Push Down, Open

Squirrel proof lid to open, so therefore must be a little trickier to what you are used to as any clever squirrel could simply open the top.

Much like child-proof medicine bottles, this Squirrel Buster Classic uses a twist top, push down action.

To open the Squirrel Buster Classic lid, you twist the whole lid top around using a push down motion - only then can the lid be forced down before its twisted off.

Nothing else to it really but it can be difficult if you didn't know that to begin with.

Never force the lid in a normal open lid manner by simply twisting it to open; only lightly push down to allow the lid gizmo to find its corresponding gaps it lands into - so in turn it can then be lifted up, and off all the way.

Reverse open action to close

Remember the steps how to open Squirrel Buster Classic bird feeder outlined above, as you'd need to repeat the action to securely close the lid.

Now you've used as many wild bird seeds as you see fit to replenish, then comes the time to close the lid so it can't be simply opened by squirrels or worse - collapses as it hangs up because you did it all wrong.

To open you have to twist it in an counterclockwise move, so to close the lid it needs to be done in a clockwise action.

Simply place the lid level on top of the feeder as you twist the lid clockwise as the lid top finds its opening to be pushed down. Once it does the lid still needs to securely tighten by continuing to twist in a clockwise direction until it stops.

To close, open or pushed down only, it needs to be done in the gentlest of ways, as forcing it to open or close can damage the lid in due course.

No pulling off lid all the way

It can be exciting to finally get the lid open of the Squirrel Buster to top it up with wild bird seeds of any kind.

However, in doing so its not uncommon to see people force off the lid in one big motion, but herein lies the problem.

In doing so you can indeed pull the lid top off its corresponding steel wire for hanging.

If the wire snaps then the unique feature of the Squirrel Buster is literally that, busted. So you need to go carefully when opening the feeder.

Not at all a problem for you mind as the risk of losing or damaging the lid top when its off to replenish with seeds - can't now because it simply hangs over to the side and out of your way - but not in a way where it can get damaged.

Steel wire is as tough as it gets so while the steel won't snap easily, it can still be pulled off the internal mechanism its fixed to.

Lid is used for hanging

Well, not quite so but why I mention this is because it really is a reminder to close up the lid properly after use.

There is not much use in using this super effective squirrel proof bird feeder if it was only to be poorly handled, by not taking care of closing the lid.

Squirrels are cunning little sods so with practice or know how, they could simply lift up the lid if its not shut properly.

And while the lid doesn't depend on the metal wire to hang, to see the lid being forced open if its not shut correctly could see the weight of seeds in the feeder snap the wire as it comes to a crashing holt as it falls.

To damage the lid is not the end of use, but a damage lid top that can't be closed for whatever reason - can see the squirrels access the seeds via the top lid.

To summarize

The Squirrel Buster is simply opened using a twist, push down, open action; basically like that of a child-proof medicine bottle.

To open the Squirrel Buster you need to twist the lid top - the entire lid cover on top - in a counterclockwise action.

Slowly twist the lid as you simultaneously push it down to find the opening for it to be forced down - once its pushed down you can then twist until it comes to a stop to pull it up and open.

Gently does it to as its made easy to open once you know how, but it would be risky to put too much strength or force to open it when you only need to go lightly.

Now you know how to open the Squirrel Buster in a counter-clockwise motion, simply sit the lid back on top - then find the push down action in a brief counterclockwise motion before securing it by using a fuller clockwise twist.

It certainly won't hurt to feel the lid by pulling it up a little to guarantee its closed properly.

While the lid doesn't rely on to be hung, the steel wiring used to hang does; to avoid snapping the fine wire its vital you don't force the lid off to much when opening.
